The new politics of America has taken on a insect like hive mentality that gives new meaning to lock step liberalism. If you are familiar with the "Borg" of "Star Trek" fame then you must have noticed that individual effort and action is being suppressed. Group think is the new game and if you talk to a liberal you can't help but notice the chilling predictability of liberal opinion and thought pattern. Much of this is accomplished with a constant harangue of political correctness on everyone usually by schooling from grade school through college and beyond. Academia is full of the most pinched and closed minded people on the face of the earth. They seem to think that only ideas that emerge from academia are valid and worthy. This is seldom true. All too often this is about money, government money. If you are good at grant writing it does not seem to matter if your ideas are stupid, the money rolls in and wasted on those stupid ideas. Take the recent example of a 350,000 pound sterling study that concluded that "ducks do actually enjoy water."
Humans are most dangerous when acting as a group, for example a mob or gang activity, lynching. Warfare would not be possible without humans acting collectively. Take for example the deaths that result when humans stampede at soccer matches, or in panic at fires and disasters. Herd behavior usually works to our disadvantage when the earthquake or tsunami hits. In club or theater fires the herd invariably rushes for the way they came in crushing each other and clogging entrances. Certain Individuals save themselves by looking for another way out. Later, an individual leader usually emerges and takes action to lead the shocked herd out of danger or organize a rescue and relief.
The fact is that most human progress springs from individual effort. This new emphasis on collective action and collectivist thinking can only bring a halt to true human progress. Human beings are not ants or termites, if we continue a hive mentality we might just be able to continue for a very extended time much like bees, but there would be no humanity there and ultimately no human progress.
Keep in mind that the great men and thinkers of history would most probably be considered crazy in the modern world. Time and again it has been the notions, ideas and inspirations of the individual that have made life better for humanity, seldom the panicked action of the collective in crisis.
The human race will cease to progress in a world where the great thinkers and innovators are suppressed by Borg-think.
