Fifty years ago Doris Wood tried to illuminate me about trees and light and mixing paint.
These watercolors are both of the "Kindsey Farm" in the Des Moines River bottom lands near Pilot Mound. The former is most typical of Doris Woods work. The latter shows that she was capable of delving into a looser more impressionistic style with every brush stroke denoting movement and very like Grant Wood's (no relation) painting "Death On Ridge Road". He also had a very static style and with "Ridge Road" he demonstrated He was very capable of a much looser and flowing style.
