It sat for decades at the northeast corner of Iowa Avenue and Dubuque Street. It was just in front of a particle accelerator that has since been torn down. It is not my purpose here to criticise the piece, it is not my cup of tea, but is OK by me. It was dubbed "The Sunken Freighter" by my artist friend John, now passed on.
I do not know who the artist was or the true name of the sculpture, I would like to make two points about it. Even though it was on the above corner for many years, I can find nobody who remembers it being there, right in the middle of town and at a very busy intersection.
The second point I humbly make is that the location it finds itself in now is inappropriate. It should be in the middle of a large grassy space. It now sits in a clump of trees and is very hard to pick out. I'm quite certain that of the many hundreds of thousands of people that have driven by it, not one in a thousand have ever noticed it and not many of them see it as a sculpture, more like a piece of playground equipment some sort of infrastructure.
