Of the two or three times I have driven through Shiloh I have never seen another living human being. It kind of creeps me out. It's as though I was the last person alive and wandering through very well kept, rather surreal landscapes looking for others. It is rather a puzzlement on account of hearing of guards at the gates in the 70's. The place bears an eerie resemblance to the compound in Texas that Janet Reno's gun thugs burned to the ground. The place is so well kept, but seemingly empty. I still have no idea what flavor of religion they are or even if they are still active. Not being religious I guess I don't much care.
I was glad to get to Richmond, at least there were people around.
