It did not take the Government long to come up with a yet another scheme to control "The Free Press"
My found object sculpture "Free Press in Chains" illustrates that by leaving too many people out of the equation, the law leaves the "process of journalism" at risk. By singling out those "certified" to be shielded the law would leave those whom were so
certified far too beholden to the Government and the Organs of that Government.
A shield law for journalists is not an inherently bad idea but should also cover those who are not part of the working press. What to do about "stringers" and free lancers, are they to be considered journalists? Examples might be those that might stumble **** into journalism on the Internet or with a camera phone, what about an
inspired amateur? There is simply no justification or compelling need to define the "Forth Estate" or a "journalist" in so narrow a way as to deem only the Government certified as journalists.
Sometimes to most important thing about the news is just "being there".

I'm not at all sure what all the ruckus over Common Core is about. My very first thought is that it is a scheme so that schools that are not up to par might claim they are up to par. On the surface the whole idea that we should all learn the same thing seems very limiting of human potential, and not a very good idea. We live in a world where what You learn is mostly done by yourself over your entire life and influenced by the unique circumstance of your life. If you level the playing field...there are no mountains to climb, thus no human progress made.

I call on the Iowa Attorney General to investigate the plight of the "Pandits" near Fairfield. It may be that He is aware of this situation, however I am compelled to make this call...as a matter of conscience after doing some reading on the subject and in the name of humanity and the common good.
I am rarely ashamed to live in Iowa.
