Why is it that people are so outraged when a politician lies to them? You elect them, you know what they are and You keep sending them back to do it to You again. It is practically a job description for a politician to lie, there are certain ceremonial functions to the job, but the greater percentage of the job is to lie to you. In fact You demand this of them.
There was always the press to call the politicians out...the forth estate has lost it's soul and direction, and has fallen to cheerleading for whatever pretty face has the power. Your best course of action is to drag non politicians, kicking and screaming into public office and see to it that they do not remain in office long enough to do a great deal of harm.
In a two party system somebody always gets the upper hand and inflicts whatever pet peeve he has, into law. Some of these pet projects make sense and the "there outta be a law" mentality is not always a bad thing. It's just that we just cannot afford every politicians pet peeve...good idea, or not. It apparently takes a bit over 200 years for all these "good ideas" to break the camels back.
As H. L. Mencken said, "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard."
Mencken also stated, "Every normal man must be tempted, at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." No thoughtful person wants it to come to this. My own solution is...two or three more political parties...so never again will villains gain the upper hand, as any party that gains the upper hand will, given time...turn villain.
With several parties, multiple villains would be forced to cooperate with each the other...even to form a government and we all might not have to endure bills of goods that are passed into law...to find out what may be in them.
Next time you go to the polls...You know what to do. Some animals are not more equal than You.
