From the giant brain of your humble blogger...
The Idiot liberals in Washington D.C. seem to be making lemonade. They have had no good news on the jobs front in months and seems bereft of ideas on how to get America back to work. They have now decided that the only reason the common folk work at all is to get health insurance. Further, they seem to now believe that they have "freed" us all up not to work by bestowing us all with the great boon...of the need to work now that our benevolent and fearful masters supply for us free health care...the only reason we ever wanted to work in the first place!
I was born at night, but not last night. It does not take a "giant brain" to clearly see our economy and our nation are not on a right track and that the Morons inside the beltway are setting us up for a very hard fall.
I am now retired but, have worked many jobs in My life. It was nice to have had health insurance on some of these jobs. The reason I have worked over the years had nothing to do with that insurance. I have worked all these jobs to buy useful things that I might enjoy. There is a darker interpretation of this sort of liberal thinking (spin). I would prefer to think that the Liberals really believe this Crap...and they truly think they are doing us all a favor. The darker interpretation is that they are deliberately setting us up for failure...turning us all into cows to be milked for votes to keep the jackboot fascist thugs in power. Myself, I have not yet made a final decision on which interpretation is true, but please...
Don't drink the lemonade.

Many years ago and about the time I was at my midpoint in a long strange career as a very small fish in the vast pond of public employment, I was given a couple of lessons on...the responsiveness of Government in general. I did not recognize these lessons at the time, I thought of them only as "funny" things that happened at work. It was only after years of reflection that I came to realize that they were almost perfect examples of why Government is not always the good way to deal with the problems of our times.
This opportunity came in the form of a new employee that My fellow workers and I welcomed to our little dingy on this vast pond. We all had our little tasks we performed that were specific to each one of us above the general tasks we all performed to get the job done. Now I, at the time knew better than to volunteer for anything extra to the job. I also knew that when cornered to accept extra tasks if asked to do them...but never volunteer.
There was a woman, a coworker who volunteered for anything and everything. She was fortunately a very competent worker and she did everything very well. She naturally ended up with more than her fair share of extra little tasks. So our Boss, in his wisdom took a couple of these extra little tasks and transferred them to the new woman. One of these tasks was to do the monthly order of office supplies. To facilitate the continued smooth ordering of these supplies, a photo copy of the last order was given to our new employee by our competent volunteer. Our new employee proceeded to recopy this order for the next two years. Had this been a typical order everything might have been just fine.
But it was not a typical order. Our competent volunteer would ask if anybody needed anything and would add this to the monthly order...and this particular order had four staple pullers on it. We got the usual ball point pens, legal pads and stickups. However, for two years we got four staple pullers each month. We were awash in staple pullers. Every desk had several in all the drawers, we used them to pull staples, as pliers and tools, we would sit at the desk an clack them like castanets and pinch each other with them in little staple puller fights. The point is that it took two years for anybody to notice all these staple pullers clogging up every desk, nook and cranny in our very small facility. There was no oversight task delegated to one of us and after the glut of staple pullers was noticed it took a bit more time to put two and two together and do something about our little "Kings Ransom" in staple pullers. This is about as good as it gets for responsiveness in any government entity however large or small.
"What's the big deal ?", you might ask... "a few extra staple pullers around ?" This brings Me to lesson number two. This new employee, nice a person that she was, was just about as competent at everything else as she was at ordering office supplies.
Nobody likes to fire anybody and managers in government almost never do fire anybody. What was the response to her incompetence? Mostly nothing. I am sure she had been spoken to and there was probably some effort to improve her general work output, but mostly nothing was done. If you are an employee in local, state or federal government you are almost never held accountable...and never fired.
Our incompetent employee had applied for a job in another department as a slightly larger fish in the pond and to get rid of her my manager evidently gave her a good recommendation just to make her go away, thus making her somebody Else's problem. She got "kicked upstairs" mostly just to make her "gone". This seems to be the way that government deals with incompetence. We have all heard about people rising to the level of the of personal competence in private sector, in government an individual usually rises to a level beyond competence. This employee got the job and this being over her head she got behind on her Stats and computer entries. As a result she was given a smaller case load...so as not to tax her competence. She remained an employee for years until she quit on her own after causing much consternation among the competent employees she left behind in lower pay grades and even more consternation among those who had their caseloads increase due to her less taxing caseload. She was never fired, nice person that she was, and was never in danger of being fired.
I say she was done no favor by not firing her...she might well have gone on to a better fit someplace else. When one is incompetent one generally knows it and she spent uncomfortable year after year in a job she probably knew she was not up to. That cannot be a pleasant way to live.
And that, my friend is why when you deal with a government official, you may be dealing with somebody that has been promoted just beyond their level of competence, or at least a "pissed off" employee who is being supervised by and incompetent and knows it.
What does this all have to do with Janet Yellen...the only reason I went on this little rant in the first place. I caught her report and question and answer session with that congressional committee yesterday. She mostly said nothing and stated she was "just like" Ben Bernanke and that nothing much was going to change. The stock markets seemed to like this and went up. Hopefully Janet Yellen has not been promoted beyond her level of competence. (I certainly and sincerely hope this is the case and that she is her own person)
In her first time out on her own she has done nothing more than photocopy the order and leave it at that. I realize that the Federal Reserve is not quite a government agency...but I fervently hope we do not all end up...ass deep in a sea of staple pullers and nothing to do about it until years later, when it is discovered that messing with the money supply, like Sasquatch wasn't such a good idea in the first place.
